Identity and Access Strategy Challenge:The strategy was addressed in the following areas: - Vision
- Strategy
- Principles, policies and standards
- ArchitectureSpecifications, and
- Road Map.
Solution: To work in collaboration with BCC to develop an Identity and Access Management strategy, in 6 calendar weeks, for executing a set of projects which will facilitate the implementation of an identity and access management system, aligned to the specific requirements, aims and goals of BCC, such as those outlined above.
Importantly, the strategy and plan was derived from working with BCC management and key stakeholders. Working through a process of five steps:
* Initiating the Project through confirming the Project schedule and gathering documents and information regarding the BCC corporate goals and objectives * Workshopping with key stakeholders to perform an identity management situational analysis of BCC based on the five elements of identity and access management – identity architecture and technology; policy, principles and standards; business process; external interfaces and dependencies; systems and technology * Determining the current readiness and requirements of the BCC organisation from the perspectives of business environment or context, sociability and culture, structure and capability and creating the vision of the desired Identity and Access Management with the targeted identity management architecture * Developing a recommended identity management strategy, and * Creating a plan of projects to be executed with proposed implementation phases, plus establish a benefits management framework for leading the implementation of Identity Management. Result:Adopting this approach enabled the Project to be executed through specific manageable steps, with tangible deliverables. Critically completing a situation analysis and readiness matrix, rather than doing just a technology study, it ensured the identity and access management architecture and selected technologies were the most appropriate to the environment and situation. It also enabled execution of the Project with plans aligned to the agreed goals along with the progressive building of plans. The outcome and ultimate deliverables formed a strategic framework, a project roadmap coupled with a benefits framework which set the scope, phasing and timing and enabled measurement of achievements for each of the projects. |
